HOME ECONOMICS by Declan Greene at Theatre Works Explosives Factory

Project type

Theatre

Date

Feb 2024

Location

Theatre Works Explosives Factory

Role

Director and co-producer

Real food, real mess and a sickly saturated design underpin our society’s complicated relationship with overindulgence of all kinds in this new staging of acclaimed theatre maker Declan Greene’s ‘HOME ECONOMICS’. This emerging team offers their take on the triptych of FLOUR, SUGAR, and TRUFFLES: a deliciously icky series of character studies. In 2024 this work speaks to the complex interactions of power, privilege, wealth, consumption, and violence. It is ultimately in the constant balance between the uncomfortable and the enjoyable, where the audience will find themselves for this rollercoaster of a work.

HOME ECONOMICS made Time Out's list of top events to see at Midsumma Festival 2024: https://www.timeout.com/melbourne/things-to-do/what-to-see-at-midsumma-festival.

'Director Stephanie Lee gives us a swift, no-frills indie production that pulses with human contradiction and proves a potent vehicle for a talented young cast to strut their stuff' - The Age (3 stars by Cameron Woodhead)

'This is an enjoyable if not especially polished production from an obviously talented company of well-cast artists' - theatre thoughts

'The set sparkles and shimmers and the actors are brave and bold. The visuals are strong and the topics are outrageous and authentic.' - What Did She Think?
